Number of Snow Leopards and Behavior

snow leopard image 11Snow Leopards are highly endangered because poachers are killing them for their fur and bones. There are between 3,500 and 7,000 left. Many organizations are trying to find ways to bring back population levels to what they used to be.The population has gone down by 20% within the last 16 years. Female Snow Leopards do reproduce in the winter or spring. They have about two to three cubs each season. Laws are being discussed about protecting Snow Leopards. Snow Leopards are very shy animals. The reason that the number of how many Snow Leopards isn’t exact is because of the shyness of these big cats. They hunt at dawn and dusk, when its dark and hard to see. Also, Snow Leopards grayish coat blends in with the rocky terrain of the mountains.
