Habitat and Prey

Snow Leopards live in high, rocky, mountainous areas. They are most common throughout central Asia. When the winter starts, Snow Leopards will elevate higher on the mountain. They have adapted to the cold, dry weather that the mountains bring. These big cats can hunt animals as big a three times their size. Snow Leopards prey is also as little as rodents. Snow Leopards hunt for big animals every 8-10 days. They most commonly eat goats, sheep, and yaks. Snow Leopards are carnivores. A carnivore is an animal that eats meat only.  They eat very slowly so it usually takes them 3 to 4 days to eat goat and sheepthe prey. Since they eat very slowly, Snow Leopards will stay by their food even when they are not eating to make sure that no other animal will steal it.
